Fall Equinox Starts Next Week | New
Mother Nature will soon offer a new fall breeze with the official start of fall starting Wednesday, September 22.
That means it’s almost time to put away the backyard swimsuits and kiddie pools and get ready for fall.
With the warm weather still in place, now is the time to check out those fireplaces, heaters, and home heaters before the cooler air comes in.
This is also the best time to refill propane tanks. Most propane carriers offer special preseason rates.
“Right now it’s $ 2.39. That’s our pre-purchase rate, and after this month we can’t guarantee the price,” said Michelle Lumpkin, of Apex Gas in Tallassee.
Once a tank is full, it’s a good idea to monitor propane consumption. No one wants to run out of propane unexpectedly.
“Look at the tank and be careful,” Lumpkin said.
Another precaution for some homeowners is to have the home’s fireplace and chimney inspected by a chimney sweep. Every year, whether or not you use your chimney and fireplace, the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) both state that you should have your entire system professionally inspected.
Not only does this help identify problems early on, but it also gives homeowners a good overview of the interior condition of your chimney system. From highly combustible creosote (a byproduct of combustion) to disease-carrying animals and flammable nesting material, there are many things inside your chimney that could not be. There are professionals such as Top Hat Chimney Sweeps who can inspect these things before it is time to use the fireplace.
Before the colder months arrive, this is also a good time to check out those fire and carbon monoxide detectors.
Fall is just around the corner and it’s a good idea to go ahead and take the time to prepare for cooler weather before it arrives.
