Gang steals 4.7 lakh from electronics store staff in Ludhiana

An employee of an electronics store was allegedly robbed ??4.69 lakh on the busy Kali Sadak on Saturday night.

The complainant, Piyush Passi, 47, said his employer had sent him to pick up a package from a pharmacy in Basti Jodhewal. However, as he returned, five armed men, who were driving two motorcycles, intercepted him and threatened him with sharp weapons. They asked him for the key to the scooter he was driving and took the package he had kept in the scooter.

Informed of the theft, his employer, Balwinder Singh, alerted the police. Passi, who had worked in the electronics store near Mata Rani Chowk for four months, said she was unaware the package contained cash.

Jodhewal Station Officer (SHO) Inspector Mohammad Jameel said it was suspected that no one saw the theft take place on Kali Sadak, one of the busiest roads in the old town . Police are scanning CCTV cameras in the area and have registered a case under section 379B (forcible removal) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified individuals.
