How To Stop Hay Fever By Keeping Your Kids Awake As Temperatures And Pollen Levels Soar
ALLERGY season is upon us and soaring temperatures this holiday weekend means more of us are spending time outdoors.
Today it appears to be the hottest day of the year yet, with temperatures expected to reach 25C in parts of the UK.
Experts have also warned that the British could be hit by a pollen bomb.
Data from the Kleenex Pollen Forecast shows that pollen levels continue to climb with the peak of the pollen season ahead.
Sunny weather is expected to strongly contribute to higher pollen levels and for many people who suffer from hay fever, the higher pollen count can make life difficult.
Children also suffer from hay fever and can become irritable if they experience itchy eyes or a runny nose caused by more pollen in the air.
The warm weather could advance the main grass pollen season – that is, when the majority of people with hay fever are affected.
Sleep can also be disrupted by hay fever, which makes those summer nights difficult to get through, especially for children.
Experts at Sleep revealed their top tips for helping your little one fall asleep.
1. Purify the air
Experts say using an air purifier in their bedroom during the day will ensure the room is clean at night.
It will also remove any harmful pollen, mites, and viruses from your home, which is a great way to keep your home safe from a whole range of harmful products.
Pollen forecaster Dr Beverley-Adams Groom explains on behalf of Clarityn: “If possible, have a room in the house that can be kept as a pollen-free sanctuary.
“That means keeping doors and windows closed, maybe running an air purifier, vacuuming and dusting the room regularly, not entering the room with clothes that were outside or leaving enter domestic animals that may have accumulated pollen on their fur. “

2. Close doors and windows
It can help keep allergens out of your home, instead of letting outside air into your room.
Experts say this will effectively prevent outdoor pollen and pollutants from being invited into your home.
However, if you are having guests in your home, the government recommends that you keep the windows open in order to let air out and stop the spread of Covid-19.
3. Cleanse their sinuses
Rinsing their sinuses is a good way to remove any pollen or dust trapped inside their nose, experts say.
“Trapped dirt or pollen can cause irritation and headaches, so cleaning the area regularly can help remove excess mucus and remove any allergic particles,” they added.
4. Sleep in an upright position
Placing pillows under their heads will keep you upright.
This, experts say, will allow drainage of any congestion that may arise during sleep, in order to keep them happy in nodding country.
5. Clean their room
Experts said allergic particles can adhere to soils.
In order to avoid this, you need to clean the rugs more often or even replace them with hardwood floors in your little one’s room.
Cleaning all upholstery and dusting the sides will keep dust and pollen particles down, they added.
6. Change the place where you dry the laundry
Instead of hanging laundry to dry during the warmer months, it’s best to dry it in a tumble dryer if possible, experts say.
This will prevent pollen from attaching to your clothes outside while drying and help keep that pollen away from their skin.
7. Keep pets away
As much as we love our pets, it’s best to keep them out of your children’s room if they have allergies.
This is because they can often carry pollen and mites into your bedroom, which will increase irritation at night.
8. Anti-allergic products
Using anti-dust mites, antibacterial products can help get a good night’s sleep for anyone with allergy symptoms.
Dr Beverley said when it comes to hay fever remedies, don’t panic – do your research now to have the right one on hand.

“The antihistamine reduces the effect of histamine production. Histamine is released in the nose in response to the invading allergen and causes sneezing, swelling, itching, and mucus production.
“Several antihistamines on the market (eg loratadine, cetirizine hydrochloride, acrivastine) are non-sedating in the majority of users, but there are several other forms that can cause drowsiness. There are also lines of nasal sprays, barrier creams and sodium cromoglicate eye drops. Always consult your local pharmacist for further advice. “
9. Wash before going to bed
Washing before sleep will allow them to remove all the pollen from your body and hair that has accumulated during the day, allowing them to get a good night’s sleep without disturbance.
