Marks & Spencer today opened its brand new Foodhall within Hamilton Retail Park.
Alongside a kilted Percy Pig, the excited M&S Hamilton team officially cut the ribbon at 9am, with customer assistant Carol Cawdon declaring the sleek neon-lit store open for business shortly long after celebrating 40 years of service with M&S.
To make today’s opening even more exciting, Uddingston-based Scottish vendors Tunnocks handed out samples of their famous in-store toffee wafers and cakes and their iconic vintage van in the parking lot. Plus, the sound of traditional Scottish bagpipes serenades excited shoppers as they enter.

Bigger than ever, the new fresh market-style foodhall is packed with new, high-tech and sustainable ways to shop. New features include a 4-foot-long cheese barge, a hydration station for shoppers to refill water bottles, and an in-store bakery, with fresh bread baked daily.
Additionally, the new store offers customers the option to “scan and shop”, a convenient new digital way to shop in-store where customers can use a handheld scanner and the M&S Sparks app to scan as they go. they walk the aisles.
The team, who were all from the store in the Regent Shopping Center which closed on Tuesday afternoon, counted down the days to opening, along with local customers, who started queuing at 8am in the morning this morning.
And to surprise these dedicated customers, the store team gave away golden tokens to the first 200 shoppers – the last ticket being given out at 9.15am this morning! All tickets guaranteed a prize, with one lucky winner standing a chance to win a £200 voucher to spend on sweet treats.
Store Manager Lorraine McGurk is proud of the Scottish look of the new store and told Lanarkshire Live: “We are delighted to open our new Foodhall in Hamilton today and welcome our Scottish customers to our new neon lighted stylish store.
“After weeks of hard work behind the scenes, the team and I are thrilled to show off our bold new features, such as an amazing Cheese Barge and a high-tech Scan and Shop. Today is also an absolute bonus.”
