Let it flow: a wall of water first tested at Bell Tower Green – Salisbury Post
SALISBURY – When the spirits behind Bell Tower Green gathered to discuss plans for the downtown park, they talked about having a “wow” factor that would draw visitors in.
On Thursday morning, Bell Tower Green President Dyke Messinger had a ‘wow’ moment when he first saw the park’s 15-foot-high water wall and accompanying buzzards.
“The water wall was the most remarkable feature of the park from the very beginning,” said Messinger. “We thought this would be one of the biggest draws, so seeing water pumping, going over the wall and back up was really exciting.”
The water feature, Messinger said, was designed and built by the same company that Disney World uses.
“They come with a pretty good reputation,” Messinger said.
The water flowing along the wall and pumped through the nozzles is controlled by a complex system of pipes contained in the building behind the wall. Messinger said the water will be cleaned three more times before the system is ready for public use. However, he believes park-goers will be able to take advantage of the cool spray provided by the wall later this summer.
The rest of Bell Tower Green is also on the right track, Messinger said.
“If you look at the park today, everything we see here was in the artist’s plans and interpretations,” Messinger said. “Seeing it in real life is amazing. It’s not more than we thought, but the color and the striking nature of the features is really cool. “
