Lowry Nature Center launches ‘Nature Center Without Walls’ program for summer
VICTORIA, Minnesota (FOX 9) – After a year of being stuck indoors, the restrictions are finally loosening and some families are probably looking for ways to spend the vacation weekend outside.
For those who like to learn more about nature and animals, there is a new program starting at Three Rivers Park District called “Nature Center Without Walls” and the idea is to be outdoors.
The Lowry Nature Center in Victoria is all about getting outside, and all summer long, naturalists like Lauren Kitrell are making sure you don’t have to spend another time indoors.
“The Nature Center Without Walls program is something when we were sure we could open our nature centers to the public,” Kitrell said. “We wanted to be able to interact with our customers when they might not be able to be in our building with us. So the idea is to bring out fun things. [to them]. “
“Things kids can touch,” Kitrell added. “Things that adults can touch, things that we can ask questions and learn and spark that inquiry. We have the red fox today. We also have a gray wolf. We have our moose antlers.
The interactive program runs throughout the summer. “Currently, we do Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 2 pm and from June to August Sunday afternoons from 1 pm to 3 pm”
There is much more to explore in Lowry. Kids can even see the collection of living raptors from the nature center.
“And of course we have our archery range and our mountain bike trail and our hiking trails here,” Kitrell added.
All a short drive away in County Carver for people who are tired of staying at home. “We’ve all been inside for this past year and everyone we interact with is very happy to be here,” Kitrell said. “They can’t express how much they appreciate our building being open, and we’re just big smiles on our faces when we’re here in the center of nature.”
The Trois-Rivières park district has four natural centers. They always have activities for your families. You can consult them and go to threeriversparks.org for more information.
