The deadline for filing the extended income tax return (RTI) for employees for the 2022 valuation year (AY22) was December 31, 2021. Congratulations on having respected it, but the process for filing the RTI n ‘is only completed if the last step is the RTI check. According to the Income Tax Department, if you have filed your RTI but have not verified it, the return will not be considered valid. Once you have filed your return, you can verify it either online. There are several ways to electronically verify the return and one way to do it offline.
You have 120 days to verify your RTI after it has been deposited in the IT department’s e-filing portal. Only use ITR verification if you are filing income tax returns that do not need to be audited, such as ITR-1, ITR-2, and ITR-4 for fiscal year 2018-19. However, if you are filling out tax returns that need to be verified, you should use the “Digital Signature Certificate” to verify them.
Here are different ways to check the ITR
By ATM: The Income Tax Department has authorized certain banks to perform electronic verification services. Check if your bank is included in the list. Swipe your ATM card at your bank’s automatic teller machine and select the “PIN for electronic deposit” option. The generated Electronic Verification Code (EVC) will be sent to the registered mobile number. This EVC can be used to e-verify your return online.
Via Net Banking: If your bank has been approved by IT to provide electronic verification services, log into your online banking account and select “verify electronically”. You will be directed to the electronic filing portal. When you select the “My Account” option, an EVC will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number.
By OTP based in Aadhar: Aadhaar binding to PAN is required for RTI filing, then taxpayers can validate their tax return using one-time password (OTP) generated by Aadhaar. After logging into the e-filing system, select the option “Generate Aadhaar OTP”. The OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number. This OTP is only valid for 10 minutes. To check your ITR, enter the OTP.
EVC via the electronic filing portal: Taxpayers whose income is less than Rs 5 lakh can check their ITR on the electronic filing portal. They should select the “e-verify” option, after which the EVC will be issued to the email address and mobile phone number on file. This EVC can be used to verify your tax returns. 5. EVC via the Demat account: Be sure to enter your custodian data on the e-filing site before using this approach to electronically verify your returns. These data must be verified by the repository. On the portal, go to the profile settings and pre-validate your account. When using a Demat account for verification, go for EVC. The created EVC will be delivered to the registered mobile phone number, which can then be used to electronically validate the return.
By mail : You can send an ITR-V (acknowledgment of receipt) to the IRS with a signed copy. The ITR-V is a one-page document that requires signatures in blue ink. It must be sent either by regular mail or by express mail. ITR-V cannot be sent by courier. CPC, Post Box No. 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore – 560100, Karnataka, India is the address to send it to. Please note that you do not have to provide supporting documents with your ITR-V. Once the tax department receives your RTI, you will receive an SMS to your phone number and an email to your email address. This notification is only for ITR-V reception. When your tax return is processed, you will receive a second notification.
